Letter to my Reps

Yesterday I got tired of being worried, angry, and scared about the possibilities of a new health care bill. I did something I've never done before: I called my reps in Washington and sent them all letters. It was incredibly easy to find their phone numbers and postal and email addresses on line. The people who answered the phone were kind, helpful, and meticulous, being sure they had my full message. They expressed gratitude for my call and assured me these contacts do make a difference and the reps do receive the messages. If any of my concern resonates with you, I encourage you to follow my example. If you don't know what to say, feel free to use my words. The body of my letter is below:

Please do not support a health care bill that increases the burden on older or sicker Americans, people with chronic illnesses or those who have disabilities. These are the very people who are less able to earn the money that might compensate for the medical needs associated with their limiting conditions. This is not what the America I was raised to believe in represents.

I am a single woman about to turn 60, and I live with multiple chronic illnesses that limit the amount I can work. I earn enough to cover the expense of my rent-controlled apartment in San Francisco and groceries, but that's about it. The Affordable Care Act has been a tremendous help for me. Many of the clients in my small psychotherapy practice struggle with chronic conditions and disability and have also benefited from 'Obamacare' and the expansion of social security.

Please only support a health care bill that provides full benefits and is affordable for everyone. Do not support a bill that penalizes people for their need.

Thank you for the work you do.

Sincerely,

Judith Nitchie, MFT

And thank you for the actions you take!
