Frequently Asked Questions

  • I work with individuals, couples and families. Some of my clients are confronted with issues related to M.S. (Multiple Sclerosis), I.B.D. (Inflammatory Bowel Disease--Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis), Asthma or other chronic illness. Others are dealing with aging, grief, loss or other difficult life changes and situations. All of my clients are ready to start feeling better about their lives.

  • Unless we have made other arrangements, a session is 45 to 50 minutes long.

  • Some clients achieve the change they want and decide to continue on their own after just a few sessions. Others find value in continuing longer term or even returning episodically as life situations change. My door is always open for returning clients.

  • Sessions are $210.00 to $250.00 for a single session. Occasionally we can negotiate a lower rate if this is beyond your ability to pay.

  • You can pay with your credit card prior to our session through PayPal (at the bottom of this page). A convenience fee of $5.00 will be charged to help defray PayPal costs. Please let the office know ahead of time so I know to look for your payment!

  • I do not bill insurance directly.

Having said that, I can provide you with a monthly statement that you can use to seek reimbursement from your out-of-network benefit. Generally you can also use pre-tax Flexible Spending or Health Spending Account dollars to pay for therapy.

  • All sessions are by videoconferencing or telephone. Sessions are accessible to anyone with Wifi or a phone!

  • I do not prescribe medication. Sometimes medication can be helpful. I can refer to and consult with a client's prescriber as needed.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are psychotherapy modalities that provide many tools to help us recognize and work with the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that keep you feeling bad and get in the way of living your best life.

  • Massage or touch is not part of this therapy. Somatic does refer to our physical bodies. Awareness of our physical embodiment and sensations (and not just the ones that hurt!) gives us access to powerful tools that provide insight, helps us manage our emotional states and responses to challenging situations, and gives us room to move forward with our lives.

  • Sometimes the hardest step is to make that first phone call to ask for help. It gets easier from there!

The fastest and most reliable way to reach me is by phone: (415)665-5220. I check my voice mail messages often throughout the day and return calls promptly. You can also email me from the contact page. Generally I can respond to emails within 24 hours. We can usually schedule your first appointment within a few days of our first phone conversation.
